Anytime an individual decides to learn how to protect themselves, learn self defense, or become a better person, one thing comes to mind - martial arts. Martial arts are very common these days, being practiced all over the world.

The martial arts have been used for many centuries, although they really became famous around the time of Bruce Lee. Bruce invented the style of Jeet Kune Do, which involves very fast strikes with amazing counter defenses. Once people began to see just how fast Bruce Lee could move, they began to look into martial arts and see just how it could benefit them.

Martial arts are broken down into specific styles. The style all depends on where and what you study. A lot of cultures and countries offer martial arts that they originated, developed, and perfected. Brazil offers Brazilian Jui-Jitsu, Japan has Karate, Thailand has Muay Thai, France has Savate, and China has Shaolin. Keep in mind that each style will vary in techniques and what it has to offer you.

Although many people think of martial arts as being just for self defense purposes, this isn’t always the case. Martial arts are used in tournaments and competitions as well, which can include sparring, floor routines, and even block and brick breaking demonstrations. All across the world, there are competitions and chances for fighters to prove themselves and their knowledge.

In general, all martial arts will teach you how to defend yourself and above all else - help you develop self control. Once you begin to study a martial art, you’ll quickly start to develop a much better state of mind. No matter what style of martial art you study, the instructors will drill self control into your head.

Those of you who have a bad temper or just need to learn self control, martial arts can be very beneficial to study. Not only will you learn self control, you’ll also learn how to defend yourself in the most drastic of situations. Self control is very important, as martial arts can be very deadly if they are taught to the wrong person - with the wrong intentions.

Over the last decade, there have been a lot of mainstream competitions that showcase martial arts, such as Extreme Fighting, King of the cage, and the most popular of all, the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship). The UFC has come a long way over the years, sparking interest from all over the world. It pairs stylists from all over the world together, to test their skills and see who is the better fighter.

With the UFC, a lot of people have gotten the wrong idea about martial arts. A martial art is great to learn, although if it works in the UFC, it doesn’t always mean that it will protect you out on the streets. Karate for example, teaching blocking and striking, with little to no emphasis on grappling
techniques. If you get in close, Karate really doesn’t help. With some distance however, Karate can be very devastating.

No matter how you look at it, martial arts can be great to learn if you learn it for the right reasons. Each style will vary in technique and what it has to offer you, which is why you should pick the best style for your needs and what you hope to accomplish. Martial arts can teach you a lot about self defense and yourself - all you have to do is give it a try.

Although private investigation today is mostly done by retired policemen, it is often the case that some new blood is needed in order to energize a case. Some private investigators are too old to be running around trying to solve a case. Some would rather do the analysis and provide the answers from their desks. This means that young people have to be brought in who have training in Private Investigation. Most of these young people get their training from a Private investigation school. What do they learn fro such schools?

1) Criminology – put simply, criminology is the study of crime. Those who wish to become private investigators must know about the nature of crime. In order to solve a case, a private investigator must understand the facts of the case. He or she must be able to understand the thoughts of a criminal.

A good private investigation school needs to equip students with the proper tools in order to solve cases. This includes knowledge in forensics and psychology. Private investigation involves not only dealing with evidence but also dealing with people. That is the reason why private investigators need to be equipped with:

a) Forensics – although this is actually a very broad term referring to the application of science to the legal system. Today, it is often used in reference to the scientific analysis of evidence in order to uncover a crime.

Some of the work of private investigators may require them to go through evidence in search of clues used in solving a mystery. Evidence needs to be properly analyzed in order to yield results. This is the reason why private investigations teach this skill.

b) Psychology – private investigators need to interact with other people in order to solve cases. They need to interview. They need to provide opinion. They need to talk to officials. This is the reason why they need to learn psychology. Private investigation schools teach psychology to students because of the fact that people are inevitably involved in their work.

Psychology will also help a lot in profiling a criminal. By knowing how a criminal thinks, a private investigator can help stop that criminal.

2) Self defense – there are some instances when a private investigator may face life-threatening situations. This is because of the fact that they often deal with informants who more or less hate their guts. In the course of an investigation, a private investigator may also make a lot of enemies. Everybody hates meddlers, right? To prevent any harm, a private investigation school often teaches self-defense to students. There are two types of self-defense often taught today:

a) Armed – private investigators are often allowed to carry firearms for self-defense. Private investigation schools may teach proper usage of firearms to students in order to promote responsible use. A single mistake can cost a life when you are holding a gun. Private investigation schools do not want this to happen.

b) Unarmed – There are, of course, states which do not allow private investigators to carry firearms. This is the reason why private investigation schools teach unarmed combat styles to students. This could either be striking, grappling or mixed styles. They could teach "hard" styles such as karate or "soft" styles such as aikido. No martial art is more effective than the other. All are simply different.

Self defense tips for women. Are you at risk? What makes a woman a perfect target? Here are 7 ultimate techniques and weaknesses criminals who were interviewed look for to take advantage of you. These tips aren’t just for the busy holidays either. It’s all about keeping your awareness all year round. Follow these tips and you can protect yourself from becoming one of this year’s next statistics.

1. Coming up to my vehicle, did I look around - aware of who is near it? Am I walking my packages in a cart or carrying them in my hand? Criminals interviewed say they want to attack the woman who is walking alone and not aware of her surroundings. Always put shopping bags in a cart. This allows you ample time to react if someone is approaching you. If you’re carrying bags, this renders your hands useless to protect yourself and gives a criminal a bonus. Remember… the buddy system. Late night shopping always needs to be a ‘girl’s night out’ affair.

2. Are my keys already in my hand before leaving the store giving me self defense protection? Again, awareness plays a huge part. Also, with a key in hand, it can be a terrific weapon if you’re suddenly grabbed.

3. Am I talking on the cell phone …fixing my hair… counting my change… writing in the checkbook…and not paying attention? Paying attention is the key. Take care of all that ‘stuff’ in the store. NOT in the parking lot, or outside of the vehicle.

4. Is there anyone loitering around my vehicle… if so… are they suspicious enough to making me go back into the store? Don’t think your being silly. NO SUCH THING. Especially when your safety is on the line. If you’re not comfortable with walking to your car, ask security to accompany you or if there isn’t security available, a store manager will do it – it is their job. That’s what they are getting paid to do.

5. Is my vehicle in a well-lit area? Is it easily visible to passer-bys? If I can’t see my car really well, who can? Criminals say they do not want to be noticed, recognized, or slowed down in any way. If you’re not easily seen by others at a mall or store, that makes you a perfect target for a criminal.

6. If I have automatic keyless entry, did I hit the unlock button twice … making it easy for someone to get into my passenger side door? Get into the habit of opening just your driver’s side door. New technology is wonderful when you’re with others, loading packages, during the day. But, at night when your field of vision is limited, don’t take any chances. Criminals are hoping that you’ll make their job easier for them.

7. If I am approached by someone – no matter how much help I need, it’s OK to turn them down. Remember, criminals will do and say anything they can to gain your trust. DON”T FALL FOR IT!!! If a stranger wants to help you with your bags, tell them no, thank you. If they still insist, tell them no again. Criminal interviews revealed that they will try to play on a victim heartstrings to get access to the vehicle, a purse, or for the vehicle keys - and move-in for the attack when trust is gained and it’s at least expected.

If you are unable to load packages into your vehicle, ask help from the store – they would be glad to help. It’s their job.
